Lincoln Center “Create-a-Thon” Video and Other Exciting Updates!
It’s been a busy season here, with the launch of my latest comic-book, Batya’s Unicorn, and lots more happening!
Arnon Shorr and I were honored to run a Create-a-Thon event at Lincoln Center, all about drawing and writing comic books!! Take a look at this awesome video the Lincoln Center team produced:
This Lincoln Center event was one of two comic book workshops for kids that I ran, in connection with The Metropolitan Opera’s adaptation of Michael Chabon’s incredible Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay! That wonderful novel tells the story of two Jewish immigrants who create an anti-fascist superhero in the days just before the beginning of World War II. (The premise is loosely based on the real-life story of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, who created Superman!) Click here to learn more about the Met Opera’s adaptation, and click here for the press release which describes all of the exciting programs they offered in connection with the opera’s launch. I was delighted to be a part of this wonderful programming!
Arnon and I run all sorts of programs about creating comic books and telling Jewish stories for people of all ages: kids, teenagers, and adults! Arnon was recently interviewed by Boston.com about the joys of telling Jewish stories in our comic book & graphic novel projects! I loved that our work together on José and the Pirate Captain Toledano, as well as Brother’s Keeper (which is based on the true story of Arnon’s grandfather’s experiences in 1948), was highlighted.
For the audio of the full interview with Arnon, including his description of our collaborative process for creating comics & graphic novels, check out his interview on the Strip Search podcast!
Arnon was also interviewed recently on the Jews Schmooze podcast — click here to give it a listen!
Arnon and I were thrilled that our graphic novel José and the Pirate Captain Toledano was mentioned by guest blogger Sarah Aroeste in this blog post “Uplifting Sephardic Voices in Literature: More Important Now than Ever.” Sarah calls Toledano “a must read”!
Hanukkah is coming! If you have to figure out what gifts to get for your family, friends, kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews, etc., and you don’t want to resort to yet another pair of socks, might I suggest exciting Jewish comic books, instead? Arnon & I are offering 10% off on all of our comic books & graphic novels through Dec. 21st, the last night of Hanukkah! Just visit our online store and use the code DREIDEL10 at checkout!
