Comic Book Programming Connected with the MET Opera’s Adaptation of The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay!
I’m excited to share that I’m running two comic book workshops for kids in connection with The Metropolitan Opera’s upcoming adaptation of Michael Chabon’s incredible Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay!
That wonderful novel tells the story of two Jewish immigrants who create an anti-fascist superhero in the days just before the beginning of World War II. (The premise is loosely based on the real-life story of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, who created Superman!)

I’ll be running two programs for kids, in connection with the Met Opera and their premiere of this new show!
The first event is on Sun. Sept. 14: Pioneer Works Second Sunday in Brooklyn from 12:30-3:30. Click here for more info (and scroll down a bit.) This will be an open door experience; kids/families can come for a few minutes or as long as you’d like. I’ve created an array of fun activity sheets for kids to get a taste of how comic book storytelling works, along with other fun drawing experiences!
The second event is on Sun. Sept. 28: Lincoln Center Create-a-Thon at 1:00 (until 3-4-ish), along with author Arnon Shorr! This will be a full workshop in which participants will be able to explore how to create (drawing or writing) a comic book page! Participants can focus on drawing or writing, or spend time working on both! We’ll have different stations and all sorts of high-level art supplies available for participants to explore as they work with us to create their very own comic book page! Click here for more info.
Kids of all ages are welcome at both events, though the Pioneer Works is more aimed at younger kids and Create-a-Thon is more aimed at older kids.
Both events are FREE!!
I’m honored to be involved with both of these programs!
