News Around the Net: March 2026!

The Super Bowl gave us this silly ad for The Mandalorian & Grogu, which apparently the internet hates but I found very funny:

And here’s a full trailer:

That’s a solid trailer.  (How great is Martin Scorsese as a Star Wars alien??!  I loved that.)  I remain concerned that this is basically just season 4 of the show and isn’t a big enough story to warrant a movie.  But I’m surprised there doesn’t seem to be more excitement for the first Star Wars movie in years.  I am looking forward to this and hoping for the best!

Here’s a full trailer for Toy Story 5:

This looks great!  The toys vs. a tablet is a brilliant idea for a Toy Story sequel.

My favorite Super Bowl movie ad was this surprise trailer for The Adventures of Cliff Booth, the spin-off of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, written by Quentin Tarantino and directed by David Fincher!

That’s a spectacular trailer.  I love that they didn’t even include the film’s title.  I laughed hard at the device of scratching and bleeping out all the curse-words and edgy content.  Fantastic.  I am super-excited for this.

Here’s a trailer for Over Your Dead Body, starring Jason Segel & Samara Weaving:

I love seeing Jason Segel in this (very) dark comedy mode!

For All Mankind is finally back with season five!  Here’s a look:

I’m excited for this great show to return. I’m also excited that the long-discussed spin-off show, Star City, is finally coming out in a few months!  (Though it’s strange that they made us wait several years and are now dropping these two shows one after another, as opposed to spacing them out.  What a weird release pattern.  I don’t get it.)

This is an endearing trailer for a documentary called Beam Me Up, Sulu:

I’m always game for a new Star Trek documentary, and the wild story of George Takei’s actually appearing in a fan-made Star Trek movie back in the eighties is intriguing.

This is an interesting trailer for a movie called In the Blink of an Eye:

It’s got an excellent cast, and it’s directed by Andrew Stanton, who I think is a wonderful talent.  He wrote and/or directed many amazing Pixar films, including Toy Story, Finding Nemo, Wall-E, and Finding Dory.  This is his first return to live-action in more than a decade, after being put into movie jail after directing the live-action John Carter (That film wasn’t perfect, but I think it’s pretty solid and I always enjoy watching it.  I’d have loved to have seen the intended sequels.)  So all that excites me, though there’s a schmaltzy, self-serious tone to this trailer that gives me pause.  I’ll probably give this a chance if I can find the time.

Ryan Coogler’s long-rumored reboot of The X-Files is finally moving forward!  I can’t wait for this!!  Please be good!

Click here for an interview inThe Hollywood Reporter with the great Delroy Lindo.  I am thrilled that he’s getting celebrated for his work in Sinners.  Put this man in Black Panther 3!!

I’m happy that Dan Trachtenberger is continuing to work on Predator movies, despite his recent deal with another studio (Paramount).  I’m curious to see where Mr. Trachtenberg takes that franchise after Predator: Badlands.

It’s interesting that Chris Hemsworth is talking about wanting to make more Thor movies after Avengers: Doomsday.  Most of the other original Avengers actors seem to be done with the MCU.  I am down for more Thor movies.  All this hinges on whether Doomsday makes big money for Disney or not, I think…

Click here for a great, in-depth interview with Jason Bateman.  It was Arrested Development that made me a forever fan of Mr. Bateman’s (even though I remember seeing Teen Wolf Too in theaters, back in the day!), so I’ve been happy to see well he’s been doing in recent years, with SmartLess and various movie and TV projects.

And here’s another fun interview, with Kurt & Wyatt Russell talking about Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season two.  I enjoyed season one; I’m interested to see if season two is as good!

This is the first sign in years that Seth MacFarlane thinks season 4 of The Orville might actually happen.  Though I’m not sure this is new news — I believe he’s said before that the season 4 scripts were all written.  I never got into The Orville, but I know a lot of people who love the show, an d I don’t like the idea of a show like this ending without a proper conclusion.

In addition to all the Games of Thrones spin-off shows, here comes news that a Game of Thrones movie is in development!  This isn’t surprising, though I wonder if they’re not a few years too late on this…

I was sad to read of the passing of Robert Duvall, though he lived to an amazing 95!  I have loved Mr. Duvall in so many movies.  Of course The Godfather is what I know and love him best from, but he was so great in so many movies: To Kill a Mockingbird, Apocalypse Now, The Apostle, and more.  He was fun to watch in The Outfit, which I saw a few years ago as part of my journey through the many film adaptations of Richard Stark’s Parker character.  Rolling Stone published a terrific list of 15 great Robert Duvall performances, and there are a bunch of movies on that list I need to watch as soon as possible…!

I was also sad to read the recent news that Bruce Campbell has cancer.  I wish him well and am hoping for the best for him.

I’ll leave you with this: the excellent TV reporter Alan Sepinwall published a terrific piece for The Ringer on the return of Scrubs!  I know the first two episodes have already dropped — this will be the next TV show I watch, the first chance I get!!
