Brother’s Keeper Nominated for a JewCE Award for Best Historical Narrative & Other Updates!
I am pleased to be here to share a number of exciting updates!
First off — I’m thrilled and honored that Brother’s Keeper has been nominated for a 2024 JewCE award for “Best Historical Narrative”!
This is incredibly exciting; it’s wonderful to be listed among these tremendously talented Jewish writers and artists. Click here for the full list of 2024 JewCE finalists.
Brother’s Keeper is a comic book short story set during Israel’s 1948 War of Independence. It’s written by Arnon Shorr, and it tells the true story of the Arnon’s grandfather, Jacob Shorr, a teenager from Jerusalem who was wounded in the battle of Kibbutz Ramat Rachel. Arnon and I will both be in “Artist’s Alley” at JewCE (the Jewish Comics Experience) this year, in New York City, on Sunday November 10th. We’re excited for the second year of this Jewish comics convention! And we’re extra-excited to be premiering our brand-new comic book: The Beast and the Booth, an all-ages Sukkot monster story! Click here for more information (and to pre-order if you can’t make it to JewCE. Arnon and I will sign all pre-ordered copies!)
Also, I’ll be running a comic book illustration workshop for kids (and kids at heart) of all ages and skill-levels at 10am at the convention!

The next day, on Monday, November 11, Arnon and I will both be participating in a Jewish graphic novel workshop at the 92nd Street Y! This program is available for kids ages 9-15, and features incredible artists & writers Emily Bowen Cohen (Two Tribes), Jordan Gorfinkle (Passover Haggadah Graphic Novel; Esther Graphic Novel), Chari Pere, and Mat Tonti! Click here for tickets and more information!
Finally, I’m pleased to report that José and The Pirate Captain Toledano — Arnon’s and my first collaboration, our 94-page graphic novel about Jewish pirates — is once again being offered as a “PJ Our Way” selection this month!
If your child is a PJ Our Way subscriber (and if they haven’t read José and The Pirate Captain Toledano yet), here’s a great opportunity to get a copy delivered to your door for free!
A big thank you to everyone reading this and supporting my work and these comic book projects!
