New Project in the Works and News Around the Net!
So one of the reasons that there haven’t been any new comics up on the site for quite a while is that I’ve been working on a variety of other illustration projects that I hope will someday see the light of day. One of them is a graphic novel proposal called Loved with the very talented Sherri and Anna. Here’s a little peak:

Just yesterday came the official announcement of a fifth Indiana Jones film, to be released on July 19, 2019. Yes, 2019. Sigh. How can anyone think this is a good idea? Harrison Ford will be MORE THAN A DECADE OLDER than 2008’s Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and he was already way too old in that film to be at all convincing in the role. (Though, to be fair, Harrison Ford was the least of that terrible film’s myriad problems.) As much as I would love for the Indy films to be wrapped up with a great film, rather than the dud that was Crystal Skull, it’s just hard for me to fathom that this film could possibly be any good.
The biggest question that press release leaves me with, which I haven’t sen anyone writing about yet online, is what sort of involvement will George Lucas have in this new Indy film? These films have always been a collaboration between Spielberg, Lucas, and Ford, and Steven Spielberg has always publicly deferred to George Lucas in terms of the direction that the films would take. Has that changed for this third film? I’m interested to learn more…
Speaking of bad ideas involving films based on characters played by Harrison Ford, this Young Han Solo film is still apparently actually happening. Ugh. I have zero interest in a Young Han Solo story. Enough with the prequels!!
In happier news, has the glow faded yet from last week’s extraordinary trailer for Captain America: Civil War?
That trailer is astounding, and that’s before you even get to Spider-Man. Seriously, how mind-bogglingly incredible is it that Spider-Man, whose film rights have long been owned by rival studio Sony, is actually appearing in a Marvel Studios film?? It’s extraordinary, on a level with Donald Duck and Daffy Duck sharing the screen together in Who Framed Roger Rabbit? I love how many Marvel characters are appearing in this Cap sequel. I love the “I could do this all day” call-back to the first Cap film (a line that, remember, I sorely wished had been reprised in The Winter Soldier). I love that shot of the Scarlet Witch doing whatever the heck she’s doing to the Vision. I love Ant Man riding one of Hawkeye’s arrows. I love the look of shock on Tony Stark’s face when the Winter Soldier tries to shoot him in the face. I love that Tony calls Spidey “underoos,” and I love that Spidey’s eyes can narrow! I am so stoked for this film. Please don’t let me down.
Speaking of Spider-Man, here’s the quote of the day: Sally Fields on playing Aunt May in those last two terrible Amazing Spider-Man films: “You can’t put ten pounds of shit in a five-pound bag.” Marvelous! This is another terrific opinion piece by BirthMoviesDeath.com’s Devin Faraci, talking about the bias inherent in all film reviewers. Mr. Faraci wonderfully expounds upon a point I have often tried to make in many of my conversations with fellow film fans. This is well-worth a read.
