News Around the Net
Friends, drop what you’re doing and click here to behold the ballot submitted by Raphael Bob-Waksberg (the creator of Bojack Horseman and co-creator of Undone) to Rolling Stone’s list of the best TV shows of all time. This is genius. (Allow me to give special praise to his submissions for #16, #28, #29, #33, #46, and #47.)
Moving on… we have another spectacular trailer for Wakanda Forever:
I can’t believe how giddy I am to see Namor in live-action!! He looks awesome in the trailers. I am very excited for this movie; I hope it’s great.
This is a gorgeous and thoroughly bizarre trailer for Alejandro G. Iñárritu (Birdman, The Revenant)’s new film BARDO, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths:
I love the use of The Beatles’ I am the Walrus in that trailer!!
I love Bond films, and I love Bond music, and so of course I am eager to see this documentary on the music of the Bond films, called The Sound of 007:
I enjoyed seeing SNL take the piss out of the painful Nicole Kidman AMC pre-movie video that I’ve had to suffer through way too many times over the past year:
Some exciting news on the Planet of the Apes front — the next film has a title (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes!) and is apparently going into production next month! It looks like this new film will be a continuation of the previous trilogy, as opposed to another reboot, which I’m happy to hear. (Though perhaps it’s better viewed as a soft reboot, with an all-new cast and a new director. We’ll learn more in the coming months, I’d expect.) And while the title is somewhat repetitive (“Kingdom of the Planet”…?), it’s got a nice ring to it! I can’t wait to learn more about this project.
This is interesting: the upcoming Armor Wars Marvel Disney+ show is now going to be a theatrical film instead! That’s a surprising twist — I wonder what’s going on behind-the-scenes…
Big news that Deadpool 3 is officially coming… and that (after years of jokes and hints) Hugh Jackman is confirmed to be returning as Wolverine! This should be fun. I can’t wait to see Deadpool (and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine!!) in the MCU!
I loved the Deep Space Nine episode of Star Trek: Lower Decks! Here’s a great article about the making of that episode… and here’s an in-depth interview with Nana Visitor and Armin Shimmerman, discussing their return to their roles of Kira Nerys & Quark.
Speaking of Deep Space Nine, I was sad to read that actress Louise Fletcher has passed away. Ms. Fletcher, of course played Vedek Winn on DS9; one of Star Trek’s all-time greatest villains. She was also Nurse Ratched in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. (Click here to read more about Ms. Fletcher.)
I’m excited that Rhea Seehorn (so amazing as Kim Wexler on Better Call Saul) will be headlining Vince Gilligan’s next TV series…! I can’t wait to learn more…
A fourth Cloverfield film is coming? Cool! I loved the original Cloverfield and the “sequel” 10 Cloverfield Lane. (Unfortunately I found The Cloverfield Paradox to be a letdown.)
I am super excited for the in-development Bloom County animated series, and the news that The Simpsons writer Tim Long is involved is awesome to hear.
Click here for a great spotlight in the New York Times on the long friendship between Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes. I’ve very much enjoyed Mr. Smith’s last two films, both of which have featured Mr. Mewes heavily: Jay and Silent Bob Reboot and Clerks III.
Holy cow, a Community movie is actually in the works!! This would potentially fulfill the show’s only-half-a-joke prophecy of “six seasons and a movie.” I hope it actually happens.
