So… Back to the Future: The Musical is coming to Broadway in June 2023…?  Great Scott!  It seems like a ludicrous notion, but I must admit this trailer is sort of endearing. The actor playing Marty sounds exactly like Michael J. Fox when we hear him say “a time machine?!”  Roger Bart, who plays Doc Brown, was terrific in The Producers.

I enjoyed this trailer for The People we Hate at the Wedding, starring Kristen Bell, Ben Platt, and Allison Janney:

Here’s a trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities series:

I’m debating with myself whether to watch this show.  A horror anthology series doesn’t really seem like it’s something I’m going to enjoy.  On the other hand, I love Guillermo del Toro.  Maybe I’ll start with his episode and go from there…?

This is an intriguing trailer for Star Trek: Picard season three:

I am not a fan (to put it mildly) of the first two seasons of Picard.  Will this new season be any better?  New show runner Terry Matalas has been saying all the right things in his recent interviews.  I like seeing the whole TNG gang back together.  I’ve been particularly bummed that Beverly Crusher has been absent from these first two seasons of Picard, so I’m happy to see her back and I hope we finally get a satisfying resolution to the relationship we first saw back in “Encounter at Farpoint”.  Seeing Worf as a pacifist feels wrong for the character; I hope they convince me otherwise.  The trailer hints at some exciting starship combat action, which I’d love to see.  The return of Moriarty was a delightful surprise; I really hope they do him justice.  The return of Lore was less exciting for me.  (Will they do a better job de-aging Brent Spiner than they did in Picard season one?  Or will they find some silly excuse for why the android Lore has grown older?)  All right, I’ll admit it, I’m curious and cautiously optimistic to see what they’ve cooked up…

I’m also excited to read about the return of Ronny Cox as Admiral Jellico (from way way back in the TNG “Chain of Command” two-parter from 1992) on the animated Star Trek: Prodigy.  That should be fun.

Click here for a fascinating interview with Lin-Manuel Miranda, discussing his newly-released songbook and his song-writing process.

This is a pretty wild article in The Hollywood Reporter on the chaotic state of the DC film universe.  I haven’t seen Black Adam yet… I’m not holding out too much hope that it’s any good, but I’m curious what this film that the Rock has been trying to get made for well over a decade actually looks like.

It looks like Harrison Ford is replacing the late William Hurt as General Thunderbolt Ross in the MCU.  Wow!  That’s fun casting.  I guess they’ve got big plans for General Ross in the next Captain American film as well as the long-suspected Thunderbolts film (uniting many of the anti-heroes from the MCU).

My review of She-Hulk should be up later this week.  Spoiler alert: I loved it.  If you’ve seen it, then click here to read a great in-depth interview with Charlie Cox on reprising his role of Matt Murdock/Daredevil (after playing the character for three seasons on his Netflix show).

I was saddened to read of the passing of Robbie Coltrane.  I loved him as Valentin Dmitrovich Zukovsky in GoldenEye and The World is Not Enough (a rare instance of a supporting character appearing in more than one Bond film, at least prior to the more interconnected Daniel Craig era), and of course he is best known for his magnificent performance as Hagrid in the Harry Potter films.

Also recently passed is Nikki Finke, the founder of deadline.com, a Hollywood news site I still read regularly.  I remember vividly reading her daily coverage of the writers strike back in 2007-08.

I loved Denis Villeneuve’s Dune movie and I can’t wait for part two.  I’m also excited to see that they seem to be moving forward with the HBO Max TV show spin-off, The Sisterhood!  I hope that actually happens!

In a similar vein, this is intriguing: Martin Scorsese is working on a TV version of Gangs of New York.  Cool!

There have been a lot of rumored Star Wars movies in recent years that never came to be (I highly doubt Rian Johnson’s planned trilogy will ever actually get made — and remember, I’m someone who really likes The Last Jedi), but I am nevertheless interested to read that Damon Lindeloff (Lost, The Leftovers, Watchmen) is working on a “secret” Star Wars film.  I’m interested to learn more about what Mr. Lindeloff might be cooking up…!

Thanks for reading!  Stay tuned for reviews of She-Hulk, Werewolf by Night, House of the Dragon, The Rings of Power, and lots more…!
